The ritual of naming a child after birth is known as the Namakaran Sanskar. Popular as the naming ceremony, this is one of the most imperative and significant Hindu rituals. As per the Grhya Sutras, the namakaran is done on the 10th or 12th day after the child is born.
It is the first formal ceremony held by the family, where the child is introduced to family, friends, and acquaintances. Popular all over India, it is done once the Sutika or Shudhikaran period (period of intensive post-natal care for both mother and child) is over.
